A Dynamic Outdoor Education Program…
We offer a customizable outdoor education program for middle school classes. Our residential programs are designed around the guiding principles of STEM education. Lessons within our curriculum are customized to best fit the needs and outcomes of your group.
Outdoor living skills
From fire building to food preparations, learn how to live, survive and thrive comfortably in the forests surrounding us. Several stations within the National Forest provide the ideal outdoor classroom for these lessons.
Team building and problem solving exercises on our ropes course
With our expert facilitation, participants work on communication and other key elements of teamwork when faced with innovative challenges out in the woods.
Nature study walks within the Monongahela National Forest
Imagine students exploring all around them as they become more comfortable with their surroundings whilst taking the time to immerse themselves within nature. Streams, wildlife, trees, fauna, dung and much more can be focussed on during each hike.
Night sky gazing with the darkest skies in the eastern USA
As groups arrive from typical city and suburban settings, prepare for astonishment when the sun sets and the skies turn dark. Basic astronomical studies can take place with the help of our staff and also smart phone and space app technologies.
Participation in our ‘Creek Freaks’ program in either of our native creeks
Our staff have been trained as part of the ‘Creek Freaks’ program that is offered by the Izaak Walton League of America. This program allows us to embrace the two creeks on camp, compare and contrast temperatures, wildlife, sources and more and also ascertain the relative health of each creek.
Nature and Art
Incorporate both of these classic camp activities with the incorporation of natural materials into an artistic theme. Participants are able to take home their projects as a memento of their creative time with us.
Orienteering
This classic past time allows participants to become familiar with the use of the compass, topographical lines and the reading of maps in general. Discover different parts of camp by following clues and coordinates.
Weather
Here in the mountains the meteorological patterns can be so varied and different from the typical weather experienced at home. Rainfall studies, wind, storms and extreme weather can all be studied with the ultimate goal of predicting the upcoming weather at camp!
Fossils
It’s not hard to find examples of fossils within our creek environment and students can search, find and learn more about the history and origin of these timeless artifacts.
